Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is a procedure to increase the size of the breasts and improve breast contour. There are several ways to achieve these goals. One method is to use either a silicone or saline breast implant to add volume. Another method is to perform fat grafting to the breasts which is a procedure that uses the patient’s own fatty tissue procured from an area where the patient may have a little extra fatty tissue and then the fat is then transferred by infiltration into the patient’s breasts to improve volume and shape.

TYPES OF IMPLANTS

Saline breast implants are filled with sterile salt water. If there is a implant shell leak, the implant will collapse and the saline is absorbed and expelled by the body. Provides uniform shape, firmness and feel and are FDA approved in women age 18 or older.

Silicone breast implants are filled with silicone gel. The gel may feel more like a natural breast tissue. If there is a leak, the gel may remain within the implant shell or can escape into the breast implant pocket. A leaking silicone gel implant will not collapse. These implants are FDA approved for augmentation in women age 22 or older.

Gummy bear implants are referred to as gummy bear breast implants since they keep their shape when the implant shell is broken. This implant is smooth, round. The silicone gel inside the implant is thicken than silicone gel implants and are firmer than traditional implants.
